The transfer window closes tonight in Turkey, three days after the Serie A season, and Cagliari has taken advantage of this additional window to land Gennaro Borrelli. After reaching an agreement yesterday , the striker signed with Rizespor today and will play in the Süper Lig, Turkey's top division. The move is on loan until June 30, 2027, with an option to buy.

Rizespor started the season by beating Konyaspor 0-1 on August 15th, then lost at home to Samsunspor on Saturday 22nd August and beat Gaziantepspor 1-2 on Saturday 29th. They face Alanyaspor at home on Monday at 7pm , in what remains to be seen whether it will be Borrelli's debut, given that Cagliari had officially held him out of yesterday's Coppa Italia defeat to Verona due to a slight physical problem.

Borrelli ended his Cagliari career with five goals in twenty-seven Serie A appearances last season, plus three appearances and one goal in the 2025-2026 Coppa Italia, and two cameo appearances in the first two matchdays of this tournament against Parma and Inter. He arrived as a free agent in the summer of 2025, following his release from Brescia, who had not registered for the league .
