When Cagliari called him, Nereo Bonato didn't think about it for a moment and immediately accepted a new challenge in his career. And today the new rossoblù sporting director was presented in the Domus press room, flanked by the communications manager Stefano Melis. Who explained: “Bonato was considered by the owners to be the best choice for Cagliari. He has ways of behaving and managerial skills that are perfect for the project that the company wants to set up".

For his part, the new sports director, who replaces the exonerated Stefano Capozucca, says he is "honoured to be part of this club with great traditions".

Bonato, who has signed a contract until 30 June 2024, explains what the basis of his work will be: “I think we can bring the work experience applied to Sassuolo to Cagliari. Here I found a quality group that performed below expectations. The relegation brought waste and the president wanted to re-found the club. This was one of the keys to my choice. And with President Giulini we have an idea of a similar society, not a 'disposable' one, but a serious plan that goes on over time”.

Bonato looks to the present and to the future: “We need an acceleration, these six games will tell us who we are and will give us indications for the transfer market. Nainggolan? I'm glad he expressed a desire to return, but on a technical level it's too early to talk about it."
