"I'll return to the Domus as a fan, with my wife and children, to experience all those emotions again. I can't say when, otherwise it won't be a surprise anymore, since I want to do it incognito so I won't be recognized." João Pedro left Cagliari in 2022, but he's still very attached to the rossoblù colors and Sardinia. He now plays in Mexico, at Atlético San Luis, and from Central America he's speaking live on "Il Cagliari in diretta" (Cagliari Live), on Videolina and Radiolina. He has a special memory for Leonardo Pavoletti, who announced his retirement just today : "He always had a very strong Cagliari side, and it's wonderful that he chose to end his career like this. Then that goal in Bari perfectly captures his entire history with the rossoblù."

In his speech, João Pedro praised Daniel Maldini, who—if he were to score on Monday in Monza—would score for five consecutive games, just like the Italian-Brazilian did at the start of the 2020-2021 season. "I hope so. If the goal comes with a win, it would be great." Even from afar, therefore, he remains a fan: " I can't forget all the beautiful things I've experienced . Cagliari will always be part of my history and it's where I spent the best years of my career. And now I've gotten over the disappointment of how it ended, with the relegation."

Curiously, in January, João Pedro could have become an opponent for Cagliari in last season's relegation battle. " Pisa approached me: I wasn't 100% convinced, even though I wanted to return to Serie A, but it was practically all done . Then, during a match against Club América where I also scored a beautiful goal, I decided I wouldn't go: it was an instinctive choice, but in the end it was the right one." This is because he finished as the top scorer in the last Apertura tournament of the Liga MX, the Mexican championship, even though he tore his cruciate ligament in June. "It took a long recovery, but now I'm fine and close to returning."
