What happened in Samatzai and in the surrounding towns (Basso Campidano area, in southern Sardinia) from the 1970s until 2015?

Is there a connection between dozens and dozens of cancer cases and the activity of an important industrial plant in the area? The docufilm currently being made by Sardinian journalist Claudio Cugusi revolves around this question, still unanswered.

Filming has just started and is continuing even in these festive days, the aim is to present the film in various festivals around Sardinia and Italy.

The initiative runs in parallel to the environmental disaster trial underway at the Court of Cagliari, after a citizen, Omar Cabua, fell ill with cancer and decided to try to seek justice through his lawyer Pierandrea Setzu. Hence the judicial investigation, entrusted to the public prosecutor Giangiacomo Pilia, which highlighted a huge illegal landfill in Samatzai. The protagonists of the documentary film are the victims and their relatives.

«Those we have tracked down so far are around twenty but we intend to go further, acquiring all the material possible», says Cugusi.
