Cagliari found the back of the net again, three of them, but they weren't enough to secure a win: the match against Genoa ended in a dramatic 3-3 draw. Borrelli's brace seemed to give Pisacane's team three points, but an incredible pass from midfield by Martín surprised Caprile in the closing stages.

Cagliari ultimately lined up with a 4-2-3-1 formation : Palestra played left-back, with Borrelli as a central striker, supported by Felici, Esposito, and Folorunsho. Deiola's first shot on goal came in the 4th minute. He was served from a corner on the edge of the box, but Leali saved it on the ground. Genoa came close to scoring in the 9th minute: Colombo won the ball back in the box, and from the edge of the box, Vitinha played a pass to the ball, who dribbled well and fired a left-footed shot. Caprile saved, and Norton-Cuffy's shot, which was sure to go, was blocked with his back-heel almost on the line by Luperto , who prevented a 0-1 with a marvelous save.

Cagliari also came close to scoring, with Felici playing well down the right in the 17th minute and crossing into the center, but Folorunsho narrowly missed the chance to make it 1-0. But Genoa broke the deadlock in the ensuing move, with a feat from Vitinha, who received the ball in the box from Colombo, controlled it past Zappa, and then diving in with his right foot to give the lead in the 18th minute .

Cagliari suffered a blow to the side. And in the 26th minute, they risked a huge blow when Vitinha once again found Colombo in the box, who missed the shot (too weak) and allowed Caprile to save, missing the second goal. Unipol Domus, after this chance, began to whistle. But in the 33rd minute, they had a chance to celebrate, when Palestra crossed from a short corner for Borrelli, who headed the ball over Vásquez and Martín to make it 1-1 . Leali's intervention wasn't enough, clearing the ball after it had already completely crossed the line.

Cagliari were still riding high in the 37th minute, with Felici crossing for Zappa who couldn't get the ball in. Leali couldn't clear the ball, and Esposito's header went wide. But Genoa took the lead again in the 41st minute, with a long ball to Thorsby who crossed for Østigård to volley in . It was his third consecutive goal, a splendid finish from the center of the area. Genoa didn't even have time to celebrate, however, because an immediate move from the back found Deiola on the right, who sent in a low cross for Esposito to make it 2-2, with Leali being fooled by the number 94's shot .

The second half was played without substitutions, with Prati immediately booked. Genoa started strongly, with Colombo's overhead kick blocked by Caprile, and another back-heel attempt by Østigård saved by the Cagliari goalkeeper following a scramble following a corner. Pisacane made his first substitutions in the 58th minute, with Idrissi and Adopo coming in for Felici and Prati. Palestra moved to the right, a move that immediately paid off, despite the difference in the players. In the 60th minute, Zappa sent in a powerful cross from the right flank, and Borrelli headed in at the far post for his second goal and Cagliari's first lead .

De Rossi's answer is Grønbæk   for Thorsby (66'), an offensive substitution, with the Dane immediately booked for simulation. Cagliari responded in the 71st minute with Pavoletti for the much-applauded Borrelli and Luvumbo for the other scorer Esposito. Deiola also had to come off for the final quarter of an hour, in pain, with Gaetano taking his place. Genoa took off Vitinha and Marcandalli for Ekuban and Carboni. Ekuban himself, a minute later (78'), was found to be actively offside, and so Colombo's splendid volley that had made it 3-3 (with the help of the crossbar) was disallowed .

Genoa's equalizer came in a dramatic fashion in the 83rd minute. From a free kick from midfield, Martín launched it toward the box, looking for a teammate; the ball bounced and deceived Caprile, who was out of the way: it was a dramatic 3-3 . Shortly afterward, Østigård hit the post again, heading a deflected free kick, with the assistant subsequently flagging for offside. At the start of five minutes of injury time, Palestra's cross was passed to Gaetano, who fired a powerful left-footed shot that Leali excelled. The visitors were then reduced to ten men for half of the extra time, with Norton-Cuffy receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Folorunsho on the counterattack.
