Volodymyr Zelensky's powerful chief of staff and close ally, Andriy Yermak, who was leading the latest round of delicate peace negotiations with the United States, has resigned, embroiled in the corruption scandal .

Zelensky had already announced his resignation in a video on social media, in which he first thanked him and then declared that "there should be no reason to be distracted by anything other than the defense of Ukraine."

"I am grateful to Andriy for always representing Ukraine's position in the negotiations exactly as it should be. It has always been a patriotic position. But I don't want there to be any rumors or speculation ," Zelensky said.

Yermak, a former intellectual property lawyer and film producer, met Zelensky when he was an actor and comedian, and later became his foreign policy adviser and chief of staff in February 2020.
