Volodymyr Zelensky wants a worldwide blackout in support of Ukraine .

The Ukrainian president has asked the institutions and citizens of the whole world to turn off the lights tomorrow, December 21, from 20 to 21 Kiev time, as a sign of solidarity with his country, which has been invaded by the Russians and has been grappling with continuous attacks on energy structures.

Zelensky asks that not only the lights of institutions and monuments be turned off, but also those in individual houses . The campaign has been called #LightUpUkraine and aims to raise at least ten million dollars to finance the purchase of a thousand electric generators that allow Ukrainian hospitals to function .

“We need your support. Every doctor forced to operate in the dark. Every father and mother who do their best to give their families what they need, even in the dark. Every Ukrainian who has faith in freedom, despite the darkness, needs your support ,” Zelensky said.

Several monuments, according to the Ukrainian government, will join the initiative. Even the symbols of Christmas with their illuminations, such as Trafalgar Square in London and Rockefeller Center in New York .
