During the European Council, Ursula von der Leyen made no secret of one of the subjects dearest to her: that of children. «On Ukraine - said the president of the European Commission - we had an intense debate, also with the UN secretary general Antonio Guterres. One point that is dear to me is that of the Ukrainian children kidnapped by Russia, which reminds us of the dark moments of our dark past: as many as 16,200 children have been kidnapped. It is a war crime and fully justifies the arrest warrant issued by The Hague».

Also today, Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, announced during his usual evening video message: «We have achieved a result for which we have been working for some time. An agreement was signed to open a representative office of the International Criminal Court in Ukraine. This step will allow international justice to become even more active in investigating the crimes of the Russian army on our Ukrainian soil."
