Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky have reached an agreement, the US and Ukraine have now signed an agreement on minerals: the agreement guarantees privileged US access to new investment projects to develop Ukrainian natural resources, including aluminum, graphite, oil and natural gas.
Also signed is a pact to establish the Reconstruction Investment Fund. The US Treasury announced. "Recognizing the significant financial and material support provided by the American people to Ukraine's defense following the full-scale Russian invasion," the statement reads, "this economic partnership allows our two countries to collaborate and invest together to ensure that our mutual resources, expertise, and capabilities can accelerate Ukraine's economic recovery."
“Under the leadership of President Donald Trump, the Department of the Treasury and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) will work with the Government of Ukraine to finalize the governance of the program and advance this important partnership,” the document continues.
"This agreement," explains Treasury Secretary Steve Bessent, "clearly signals to Russia that the Trump Administration is committed to a peace process that focuses on a free, sovereign, and prosperous Ukraine for the long term. President Trump designed this partnership between the American and Ukrainian people to demonstrate the commitment of both parties to lasting peace and prosperity in Ukraine. And to be clear, no state or individual that has funded or supplied Russia's war machine will be allowed to benefit from the reconstruction of Ukraine." "Both the United States and the Ukrainian government look forward to rapidly operationalizing this historic economic partnership for the Ukrainian and American people," concludes the note from the US Treasury.
“I am grateful to all those who worked on the agreement and made it more meaningful. Now the document is such that it will ensure success for both our countries, Ukraine and the United States,” Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko commented on the agreements signed between Kiev and Washington, Ukrainian media reported. “On April 30, Ukraine and the United States signed a long-awaited minerals agreement establishing a joint investment fund in Ukraine,” Svyrydenko, who was in Washington yesterday to sign the framework agreement on behalf of Ukraine, announced.
