This is what was stated in the statement from the Quirinale Palace at the end of the meeting of the Supreme Defense Council, attended by President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

The situation in the Middle East was also at the center of the discussion. "Italy is present in the humanitarian assistance in the Gaza Strip and will also do its part in the training of the Palestinian police forces, and in participating in the initiatives of the European Union and the international community," the statement underlines.

Furthermore, it adds, the Supreme Defense Council, after "examining the situation in southern Lebanon, where the security situation remains fragile, with ongoing violations of Resolution 1701 of 2006," denounced "the repeated unacceptable attacks by Israel on the UNIFIL contingent, currently under Italian leadership."
