The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin in connection with the war in Ukraine.

Among the three members of the panel that accepted the request of the prosecutor Karim Khan, there is also an Italian judge. This is Rosario Aitala, who worked on the drafting of the Code of international crimes, first with the minister Marta Cartabia, then with the Minister of Justice in office Carlo Nordio. Former police officer, 54 years old, Aitala was born in Catania and teaches international law at Luiss.

For the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, the mandate is "unacceptable" from a legal point of view. "We do not recognize the jurisdiction of the Court and each of its decisions has no legal basis," he added.
