The death toll from the 6 magnitude earthquake that hit the Indonesian island of Sumatra rises to eight dead, 86 injured and six missing.
Local authorities said: "The searches are continuing to find six people who, according to our information, were buried by a landslide," said Abdul Muhari, spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency (Bnpb).
Thousands have been displaced: at least 6 thousand people in the province of West Sumatra and in the city of Pasaman have been evacuated, adds the BNPB.
The quake damaged nearly 1,000 homes and public facilities including mosques, schools and banks. The West Sumatra administration has declared a state of emergency for the next two weeks.
The quake was recorded at 9:39 local time yesterday (2:39 in Italy): according to data from the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Ingv) and the US geological monitoring service Usgs, the earthquake had hypocenter about 20 kilometers deep and epicenter 66 km from the city of Bukittinggi.
