Outgoing Finnish premier Sanna Marin has announced that she will resign in September as leader of the Social Democratic Party of Finland after the electoral defeat in the elections held on April 2 last .

Marin also ruled out entering a new government if Petteri Orpo, leader of the Conservative Party and new premier in pectore , chooses to ally with the left rather than the far right to form the government.

"I don't think it's likely that I myself will be part of the ministerial team," Marin said. “I have not been offered an international assignment. I will continue to work as a deputy ,” added the Social Democrat leader.

Referring to the "great honor" of leading the government over the past three and a half years, Marin, who during her mandate has become an internationally recognized figure, also confided in "exceptionally difficult moments".

"I have to admit frankly that my resistance has been put to the test in recent years," he concluded.
