An American journalist from the Wall Street Journal Evan Gershkovich was arrested in Russia, in the city of Yekaterinburg. This was reported by Interfax quoting a statement from the FSB internal intelligence services.

Gershkovich, 32 years old and duly accredited to the Foreign Ministry in Moscow, is accused of espionage.

In a statement, the FSB (i.e. the former KGB, the Russian secret services) states that the journalist, "acting on instructions from the American side, was collecting information covered by state secrecy on the activity of one of the enterprises of the Russian military industrial complex ».

Under Russian law, the reporter faces up to 20 years in prison.
