The UN mission in the Middle East, in which the Sassari Brigade also participates, is still in the crosshairs: four Italian UNIFIL soldiers were injured after the base in southern Lebanon where they were located – the Unp 2-3 in Shama – was hit . According to sources from the Ministry of Defense, these are four soldiers serving with the Sassari .
According to government sources, the Sassari residents are not in danger of life . Investigations are underway to establish the dynamics of what happened.
According to an initial reconstruction, the base was hit by rockets from Hezbollah militants . The soldiers were in the bunkers because alert level 3 had been triggered - signaled during moments of particular danger for attacks between Israel and Hezbollah at that time - which also requires the use of helmets and vests.
The Italian soldiers were slightly injured by glass shards following the explosion of two 122-millimeter rockets . The two rockets hit the base's bunker and a building near the international military police, causing damage to surrounding infrastructure.
