Arman Abdolali, the 25-year-old arrested when he was 17 for the murder of his girlfriend, was hanged this morning in Iran. The appeals of NGOs and activists against the execution of the death sentence were of no use.

The news was reported by Al Arabiya, who cited the Tasnim agency. Abdolali had been in prison since 2016, when he confessed to the murder of his girlfriend Ghazaleh Shakour.

Amnesty International had denounced that his confession had been obtained under torture and a month ago pointed out in a statement that the trial against the young man was marked by "serious violations".

The young man was hanged in Rajaishahr prison near Tehran after the execution was postponed for a third time in mid-October. The green light for the sentence was given after the family of the murdered girl, whose body was never found, refused to forgive him. (Unioneonline / L)
