The political controversy rages after the agreement between Italy and Albania on migratory flows .

The agreement signed by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Albanian leader Edi Rama provides that migrants rescued in the Mediterranean by the Navy and Guardia di Finanza will be taken to centers that will be built on Albanian territory.

But for the opposition it would be a sort of "Guantanamo" , i.e. the high-security prison for terrorists built on Cuban territory by the United States.

« The Made in Italy Guantanamo that Giorgia Meloni wants to build in Albania is just another cruel propaganda move by the government. Having failed the much-vaunted agreement with Tunisia, he now wants to send just over 30 thousand migrants a year to the CPRs built on Albanian territory", comments, among others, Riccardo Magi, secretary of +Europa . Who adds: «Considering that almost 150 thousand people have arrived from the beginning of 2023 to today, it is clear to everyone that Giorgia Meloni is giving us yet another one. All this in conflict with international conventions, trampling on European law and making a mockery of the rule of law and the rights of migrants. Meloni did not say how many Italian personnel will be used to manage the CPRs, he kept the costs of this operation hidden, he did not clarify the possible economic compensation that Rome will give to Tirana: this agreement with Albania has every appearance of being a scam on the lives of shipwrecked people and asylum seekers. Europe stops this madness of our Premier", concludes Magi.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama responded to the controversy: «Comparing these centers to Guantanamo – he said – does not seem generous towards those who, in the real Guantanamo, were there and suffered. Who will come to Albania for a limited period of

time will do it by living in the best conditions ."
