Coronavirus cases have almost quadrupled in just seven days. It happens in French Polynesia where the positives went from 579 on January 28 to 2,080 yesterday.
The incidence rate thus rose to 753 infections per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 317 in the previous week.
The data was released by the local health department.
Not only that: due to the low number of tests that are carried out, there could be an underestimation of the effective circulation of the virus, explained epidemiologist Henri-Pierre Mallet.
For now, in the meantime, there has not been a significant increase in hospitalizations, in the country's hospital center there are only five Covid patients, one woman is in intensive care.
According to a screening performed by the Louis Malardé Institute, only the Omicron variant of the coronavirus is present in the overseas community of France.
