Colin Powell, the former US secretary of state (the first black in US history) has died.

He was 84 years old and, as the family says, the death occurred due to the consequences of Covid.

"We have lost a husband, a father, a grandfather and an extraordinary and loving American great", reads the message posted on Facebook which also makes it clear that Powell was vaccinated.

He had fought in Vietnam and became hugely famous following the victory of the US-led coalition in the Gulf War, so much so that it was rumored that he could become the first black president of the United States.
