Two years of suspended detention were requested before a German court for the former secretary of a Nazi concentration camp, who is now 97 years old : Irmgard Furchner is accused of complicity in more than 11,000 murders in the Stutthof Nazi camp in the current Poland.

Thus one of the last trials for Nazi crimes is coming to a close in the court of Itzehoe, in northern Germany.

The first woman to be tried in Germany for Nazi-era crimes in decades, Furchner attended the hearing sitting impassive in a wheelchair, wearing a red beret and jacket.

In September 2021, the woman had fled the nursing home where she lives as she was about to begin her trial and headed for a subway station.

She managed to elude the police for several hours before being arrested in the nearby city of Hamburg and held in custody for five days .
