These are dramatic images coming from California , where for days the woods around Los Angeles have continued to burn, destroying hundreds of hectares , close to residential neighborhoods and businesses.

Among the impressive aid machine, there is also the big heart of Vincenzo Porcu, 47 years old from Sinnai , owner of the restaurant “Carasau” in Culver City County , on the outskirts of the city that is the symbol of international movie stars.

For Porcu, who has been in the US for 25 years, the choice to open his restaurant to evacuees and rescuers, offering free meals: "When the city started to burn - says Porcu - together with my staff I thought we wouldn't stand by and watch, launching our initiative on social media alongside those who are experiencing this scourge".

And so, for Porcu and his team, the non-stop preparation of maloreddus alla campidanese and pizza : "We are not stopping for a single moment - confirms the restaurateur - with hundreds of citizens who are selling us a precious point of reference. I have no news of injured Italians and Sardinians, but here there are those who have truly lost everything and are desperate. The rescue efforts are impressive between teams on the ground and in the air, but they are not enough to face the flames".

But Porcu also digs into years of long apprenticeship, with a career that began at just 14 as a waiter: "I left the island with a suitcase full of dreams. Here I found a second home, where I could give shape to my projects. Los Angeles welcomed me in 2006 and I recently opened my second restaurant. It is my duty not to leave alone a people to whom I feel deeply connected and who I hope can soon emerge from this emergency. We Sardinians never turn our backs on anyone".
