The husband of Agnes Tirop , the Kenyan athlete found dead with stab wounds to the abdomen at her home in the high-altitude training center of Iten, in western Kenya, was arrested in Mombasa.

The man, Emmanuel Rotich, reportedly was trying to leave the country.

The record holder, two times bronze medal in the 10,000 meters at the world championships and gold at the cross-country world championships in 2015, according to the first reconstructions, was killed by her spouse at the height of a fight.

The disappearance was reported on Tuesday evening by her father. When the police entered the house yesterday they found the woman's body on the bed, a pool of blood on the floor. The husband was immediately identified as the possible culprit.
