At least 31 civilian victims of an attack on a bus in Mali by unidentified armed militiamen.

Local authorities have made it known, according to reports from the BBC.

The bus came from Songo village and headed for Bandiagara market, a town in the center of the country. Many of the victims are women who were on their way to work in the market.

The militiamen first opened fire, killing the driver and then set the bus on fire. According to the mayor of a nearby town, Moulaye Guindo, there are numerous injured as well as an unknown number of missing.

The attack, which has not yet been claimed, took place in the Mopti region, the scene of violence for months by fighters linked to Isis and al-Qaeda.
