Warhol's Marilyn Monroe sold at auction for $ 195 million

195 million euros , equal to approximately 185 million euros.

This is the stratospheric figure reached by one of Andy Warhol's portraits of Marilyn Monroe , entitled "Shot Sage Blue Marilyn", auctioned by Christie's .

This is the highest price ever paid for an American artwork sold at auction, but also an all-time record for a twentieth-century work.

The previous record was the 179.4 million dollars with which in 2015 an anonymous buyer had bought "Les Femmes d'Alger (Version 'O')" by Pablo Picasso.
