The first data from arrivals in Sardinia's ports and airports in June are excellent .
Thanks to the good weather, the beaches have already been stormed by vacationers, just as in these days the historic centers of Alghero and Cagliari are crowded with tourists.
From 1st to 10th June, 103,225 arrivals were recorded in Sardinian ports (Olbia 68,153; Porto Torres 20,642; Golfo Aranci 11,791; Cagliari 2,639), with an increase of 111.06% compared to the same period of 2021 , the year of slow recovery of the tourism after a disastrous 2020. A figure on the rise (+ 10.99%) even compared to 2019 , a year that recorded record numbers for Sardinia. In the same period, 180,769 passengers arrived in the three island airports, including scheduled and non-scheduled flights (Cagliari 82,582; Olbia 69,614; Alghero 28,573), with an increase of over 150% compared to 2021, but higher, about 5%, even compared to 2019.
"After a long period of restrictions, there is a strong need for a return to normalcy and for this summer season we expect highly positive numbers, probably even higher than the record ones recorded in 2019 - comments the president of the Region Christian Solinas -. A result that it will be able to contribute decisively to the recovery of the entire sector, with an inevitable impact on our employment levels ".
“According to ENIT, Italy is in first place as a favorite European destination for this summer and Sardinia will be able to conquer a good chunk of this approval - added Solinas -. Not only will the comforting signals coming from domestic tourism be consolidated, but there will also be a consistent recovery of the foreign market , which had weakened in the two previous summers due to the epidemic. These are positive and comforting indications, which bode well for a 2022 full of satisfactions. In summer Sardinia is full thanks to its environmental and landscape beauties , but, thanks to a rich heritage of traditions, culture and history, the island can be confirmed as one of the most popular tourist destinations even in the other months of the year. The regional council is making investments to build an increasingly competitive Sardinia in any season, ready to satisfy an increasingly varied demand for tourism ”.
"After the first positive signs, recorded for Easter, these June data make us imagine a record summer , so much so that the difficult moments experienced in the two years spent with the nightmare of the virus, especially 2020, are definitively archived - underlined the 'regional councilor for tourism, Gianni Chessa - Numbers that lead to optimism, despite the fact that after the health emergency we also had to suffer the serious international situation, which risked heavily affecting the tourism market in the island, especially that coming from' abroad. This will be the year of the relaunch and the island is ready to play a leading role with a quality offer and programming ".
“Sardinia is consolidating a profitable system of connections and can count on 197 destinations (123 international and 74 national), to be added to those of maritime transport. The commitment of the regional council in promotional activity is constant, not only with participation in the best international trade fairs in the sector (Madrid, Paris, Tel Aviv, Frankfurt and of course Bit of Milan) which have contributed to the international visibility of Sardinia, but also with a rich calendar of world-class sporting events , which, in addition to the thousands of appearances between athletes and companions, have captured the attention of the international media. To complete the offer, we are also focusing on cultural and identity events, on religious, gastronomic, experiential and congress tourism. The dream of an island that lives all year of tourism can come true because Sardinia is able to offer uniqueness and quality ”, concluded the commissioner Chessa.
