The Pavia Soloists at the Solki Music Festival: a double date in Sant'Antioco.
The ensemble, founded in 2001 and directed by Daniele Giorgi, will be the protagonist on Saturday 29th and Monday 31st August with music by Mozart, Schubert and Schumann

Twenty-five years of activity, international tours, eleven recordings, and a history that began in Pavia in 2001 under the aegis of the great cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. The Solisti di Pavia are coming to Sardinia for a double date at the Solki Music Festival in Sant'Antioco , where they will perform two concerts scheduled for Saturday, August 29th and Monday, August 31st, both at 8:30 pm in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall.
The Pavia-based ensemble, founded in 2001 and now led by violinist and conductor Daniele Giorgi, who has served as its artistic and musical director since 2025, has developed an intense concert schedule in Italy and abroad over a quarter of a century, with tours throughout Europe and South America. In 2004, it performed in Algiers during the Italian Presidency of the European Union, and in 2025, it was a guest at the Italian Pavilion at Expo Osaka. The Solisti di Pavia have also released eleven CDs for Velut Luna and Decca.
"We are enthusiastically participating in the Solki Music Festival, which shares the vision of artistic director Matteo Cabras, aimed at building musical culture in the region," emphasizes Daniele Giorgi.
The first appointment, on Saturday 29 August, is entitled Lights and Shadows and compares two pieces created at opposite moments in the lives of their authors: the Quartet in G major K. 80 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, known as the Lodi Quartet, and the Quartet No. 14 in D minor D 810 “Death and the Maiden” by Franz Schubert.
"Saturday's concert," Giorgi explains, "is noteworthy for the juxtaposition of two contrasting pieces: those of two geniuses at opposite stages of their lives. A fourteen-year-old Mozart entering the international scene full of expectations, and a Schubert in the final stages of his short life, at a point in his musical production where a disturbing abyss of beauty yawns beneath every note."
The star of the evening will be the quartet made up of Daniele Giorgi and Damiano Barreto, violins, Giulia Panchieri, viola, and Fabio Fausone, cello.
The second event, on Monday, August 31, is titled "Inner Voices" and is entirely dedicated to Robert Schumann. The program includes the Humoreske, Op. 20, and the Quintet for Piano and Strings in E-flat major, Op. 44. For the Quintet, the Solisti di Pavia quartet will be joined by pianist Nino Gvetadze.
"We will play with Nino Gvetadze what can be considered the progenitor of the piano quintet form, Robert Schumann's Opus 44," Giorgi continues. "It's a piece of enthusiastic outbursts and introspection, which beautifully embodies Schumann's dualism represented by his two famous fictional characters: Florestan, who represents the composer's passionate and impulsive side, and Eusebius, his dreamy and reflective side."
