Who said that only the big names in pop and rock sell out? Opera in Sassari has the same appeal. And if last year entry into Piazza d'Italia was free for Leoncavallo's “Pagliacci”, this year there is a ticket for Verdi's famous “Otello”. The first day of presale opening was enough for the 1,200 seats to be sold out. Of course, standing room remains because the square will not be cordoned off, but the result is sensational.
The appointment with opera in the square is on July 12th. Sergio Oliva will also conduct the Marialisa de Carolis Orchestra in this edition. The direction, scenes and costumes of the new staging of the de Carolis will be curated by Alberto Gazale, baritone from Sassari, director and artistic director of the Institution, much appreciated in the 2023 edition for the direction of "Pagliacci".
Dario di Vietri will play Othello, among the expected returns we find in the cast of "Othello" the Sardinian baritone Marco Caria who, after the success of the last season, which saw him as the protagonist in Sassari of " Pagliacci" and " Nabucco", will play the role of Iago. There is also great anticipation for Angela Nisi, the acclaimed Nedda in “Pagliacci”, who will now be Desdemona in “Otello”.
