“I accepted, from the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, the task to form the new government. A high-profile executive who will work quickly to respond to the urgencies of the Nation and citizens ”.

These are the words of Giorgia Meloni, the first woman to the presidency of the Council in the history of the Italian Republic , after having received the task of forming the government from the Head of State, Sergio Mattarella .

And this morning, at Colle, the new prime minister and her team (which also includes the Sardinian Marina Elvira Calderone , Minister of Labor) were sworn in in the presence of the Head of State.

The new executive - which has Lega leader Matteo Salvini as deputy premier (in the department of Infrastructures) and Forza Italia coordinator Antonio Tajani (to whom Foreign Affairs have been entrusted) - is therefore fully operational .

The next steps to start the legislature will be the ceremony of passing the bell between Meloni and the outgoing premier Mario Draghi (at Palazzo Chigi, Sunday 23 October at 10.30) and the first meeting of the Council of Ministers , also scheduled for Sunday at 12.
