After the years of the pandemic, the Figulinas Festival is back in full swing, celebrating the 33rd edition. The International Folklore Festival organized by the cultural association Gruppo Folk Figulinas together with the Municipality of Florinas.

Four foreign groups, coming from Colombia, Brazil, South Africa and - new - from the USA, with American Racket, artists from eight states of the USA and Canada. Sardinia, on the other hand, will be represented not only by the home group but also by Ittiri Cannedu, Oniferi (Sant'Anna Folk Group and Tenores Santa Ruche), the Salvatore Manca di Ploaghe folk association and the Sorgono Folk group.

It starts tomorrow from Villanova Monteleone: at 7pm with the parade in the town center and at 8pm the dance performance of the groups.

The other stops are in Budoni (August 12), Florinas (13 with dances and the typical group dinner), Ottana (14), Sorgono (15) and again in Florinas on 16 where the Festa dell' Friendship.

The press conference was held in the council chamber of the Municipality of Florinas in the presence of the mayor Enrico Lobino, Alessandro Chessa of the Figulinas group and the president of the regional tourism commission Piero Maieli.

THE REVIEW – From American tap dance to African Zulu dances. From the joyful and colorful dances of Brazil and Colombia to the Sardinian su ballu tundu. The Figulinas Festival returns to full energy after the years conditioned by the Covid. The 33rd edition will touch four centers in addition to Florinas, where the international folklore festival was born thanks to the idea of the cultural association Gruppo Folk Figulinas which immediately found support in the Municipality of Florinas. And such international credibility as to have been included in Cioff, the world organization of folklore festivals.

Four foreign groups and six islanders will liven up the week which starts tonight in Villanova Monteleone with the parade in the town center (at 7pm) and then the dance and music performance in Piazza Delogu Ibba at 8pm. These are the other stops: Budoni (12 August), Florinas (13th with dances and the typical group dinner), Ottana (14th), Sorgono (15th) and closing in Florinas on 16th where the Friendship Festival will be held at 10pm.

FOREIGN GROUPS – Debut for the USA which brought the American Racket group, a curious name that refers to the noise made by shoes. On a country basis the dances are reminiscent of the Irish tap dance. The group is made up of artists from eight different states plus Canada. Going down in the cartoon, here is the Grupo Dança Populare "Andancas" of Porto Alegre which offers a synthesis of some of the dances of the boundless Brazil which is almost 30 times the size of Italy and has a popular culture rich in variations. The Corporacion Folclorica Tierra Antioqueňa founded 40 years ago and which draws from a vast dance and musical repertoire comes from the Copacabana of Colombia.

Finally, the South African group Vusani Isizwe Mawundlu Youth Development Organization, made up of many young people and which also includes Zulu-speaking members.

SARDINIAN GROUPS - Oniferi proposes the Sant'Anna Folk Group and the Santa Ruche Tenores). Also present were the Salvatore Manca di Ploaghe folk association, the Sorgono Folk group, the Ittiri Cannedu association which thus returns the visit to the Figulinas Group, present at the Ittiri Folk Festa.
