A new sovereignist Eurogroup is born in the European Union . It was launched by the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban , currently a three-way alliance "built around a patriotic manifesto" with the former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis and by Herbert Kickl, president of the Austrian Freedom Party , a populist and extreme formation right.
To form a real parliamentary group , however, 23 MEPs from at least seven countries are needed . Four countries are therefore missing, and Matteo Salvini's League could soon join , which is currently in the "Identity and democracy" group.
Orban is sure: «Soon this will be the strongest right-wing association in European politics».
And Matteo Salvini welcomed the birth of "a strong, patriotic, cohesive and opposed to mess-ups" group . «Faced with the arrogance of Brussels, which behaves on appointments as if nothing had happened after the citizens' vote, and which does not wait for the outcome of the French elections, it is more necessary than ever to unite the forces of those who want to change Europe and offer an alternative to the unfortunate left", added the leader of the League.
And today, on Radio1, he added: « What if we join the group of patriots launched by Orban in Europe? Uniting those who put work, family and the future of young people at the center seems to me to be the right path. This is what the League has been hoping for for some time. We are evaluating all the documents but it seems like the right path to me."
