INFO ON THE MUNICIPALITY OF TERTENIA
The first traces of human settlements in the Tertenia area date back to the Neolithic period, as evidenced by 77 nuraghi, 22 villages, 34 giants' tombs and a sacred well. Tertenia is the southernmost town in Ogliastra and its territory offers a fascinating combination of sea and mountain that, starting from the Tacchi, lies on the coast in the white beaches of Foxi Manna and Foxi Murdegu. Tertenia can boast a great artistic predisposition on the part of its inhabitants. Among its illustrious citizens is one of the Sardinian artists who most distinguished themselves nationally and internationally in the last century: Albino Manca, whose most important work is represented by the "Diving Eagle", an imposing bronze sculpture, positioned in Battery Park on the island of Manhattan in New York. The work was inaugurated by US President JF Kennedy in 1963. Many of his other works are exhibited in the Civic Museum of Tertenia dedicated to him. Another prominent artistic figure in the Tertenia artistic panorama is Don Egidio Manca, Albino's cousin and a priest in Tertenia in the 1950s. His works can be admired inside the church of Tertenia and in the Parish Museum dedicated to him. Other artists include Armando Demurtas, Ottavio Manca, Tommaso Loi and Gianni Manca. Inside the Town Hall there is a permanent art gallery that boasts over 40 works by artists such as Antonio Corriga, Foiso Fois and Mario Delitala.
