"In Sardinia, you'll see many new faces on our lists," Antonio Tajani said in an excerpt from an interview in L'Unione Sarda, out today. The occasion is the Foreign Minister's visit to the island, to whom the government has promised the first €33 million for post-Harry reconstruction. The Foreign Minister assures that this is only "an initial allocation," given that the estimated damage amounts to €200 million.
Meanwhile, Tajani will meet with President Alessandra Todde . But when asked specifically about the Sardinian government's actions, he doesn't receive a promotion: "I see a coalition often divided by internal vetoes between the Five Star Movement and the radical left , which ends up immobilizing the Region. We propose a model of action, that of a united center-right that puts development, not welfare, at its core."
Regardless of the outcome of the vote on the island, the minister, who is the national leader of the Azzurri party, makes no secret of his ambition to put his own spin on the candidacy for the next regional elections : "We will bring high-profile names to the coalition table, capable of uniting and governing well. We have all the credentials, the experience, and the human resources to lead Sardinia. We will discuss this honestly with our allies."
Regarding the international scene, Tajani's position is this: " Russia has violated that country's sovereignty, but also a fundamental law of international politics in Europe. In the Middle East , the October 7 massacre, Israel 's war in Gaza with tens of thousands of deaths, the military intervention by Tel Aviv and the US in Iran , and even the new threats of war following the crackdown in Tehran, could bring further destruction, both material and political."
