From the proposal for a popular initiative against energy speculation, which he supports, to the concrete reason for his visit to Cagliari yesterday, namely the seal on the passage to Forza Italia of sixty administrators of the Island (including regional councilors Gianni Chessa, Piero Maieli and Alfonso Marras), passing through the conflict in Ukraine, the next national maneuver, the candidacy of Raffaele Fitto to the EU commission and the rumors that bounced after the recent meeting between Marina Berlusconi and Mario Draghi. Antonio Tajani spoke certainly as a Foreign Minister and very much as a secretary of the blue party. After a greeting to the voters at the T-Hotel, and before the demonstration organized by Coldiretti in Dolianova, a stop at the headquarters of the L'Unione Sarda group where he met the editor Sergio Zuncheddu, who dwelt on the mobilization for Pratobello 24 and expressed gratitude for the committees, the mayors and the many Sardinians who signed the text.
Over one hundred thousand signatures for the bill that aims to stop speculators: what do you think?
"Forza Italia considers the popular initiative wise, credible and serious. It is the best path to follow because it goes in a right and balanced direction. I do not understand why the president of the Region (Alessandra Todde, ed. ) has changed her mind compared to when she was in government. Now she criticizes a law (the Draghi decree, ed. ) that she supported because she was vice-minister, in reality she was aware of everything that was happening".
What will your party actually do?
"We will present an initiative on renewable energy in Parliament: it is a topic that must be addressed with great seriousness. In the next few days our Sardinian deputy and coordinator Pietro Pttalis will be with Minister Pichetto Fratin to talk about this very topic. The moratorium is of little use. It is a matter of avoiding in every way the devastation of the environmental heritage and of trying to have the necessary energy: now we are looking to the future, in the long run coal and gas will be abandoned, on the other hand also for the competitiveness of companies it is necessary to have energy that costs less and less. This is why we need a single energy market at a European level".
Forza Italia is aiming for 20% in the next elections. A very ambitious goal. Today it is here to welcome sixty administrators who have chosen to embrace your project.
"Recent polls show us growing strongly. This shows that we are credible, reliable, serious. We are a great force at the center of Italian politics, an integral part of the center-right, but an alternative to the left. I have said it and I repeat it: we must build that great moderate force that must occupy the space between Giorgia Meloni and Elly Schlein. We are aiming for 20% and we are working towards this. The adhesion of administrators is widespread: what happens in Sardinia also happens in the rest of Italy".
Aren't you afraid that these are self-interested entries?
"We do not offer seats to anyone, only the possibility of being part of the construction of a great political plan. I greeted with great satisfaction the vision of the entire group and this means that also in Sardinia Forza Italia brings people together. We open our doors, but we are neither a taxi nor an hourly hotel. We are a great political force that needs new protagonists. As for the former councilors of the Psd'Az, they freely chose to join FI, we have not made any acquisition campaign, we make choices that serve to increase consensus in the center-right. Now they have landed in our party and if they want to grow they will earn with work the space they deserve to have".
What significance do you give to the meeting between Marina Berlusconi and Mario Draghi a few days ago?
"In the government, everyone can sleep soundly as far as the coherence and loyalty of Forza Italia are concerned. We have our ideas and our identity, and we will not be influenced by others. We will continue to be loyal to strengthen the center-right, indeed all my political action and the political action of Forza Italia aims to occupy that space that is in the center, which is free today, precisely to strengthen and broaden the boundaries of the center-right: because the right without the center does not win, look at what Le Pen did, she got many votes but did not win. We in Europe are the guarantors of Italian stability".
Will Raffaele Fitto be EU Commissioner?
"He is the best possible candidate and I hope that the Italian left-wing parties will support him as Berlusconi supported Gentiloni and as Fitto himself supported Gentiloni. And so I hope that the left will make a choice that goes in the direction of protecting Italian interests. When the game is played away from home it is about defending Italy and Fitto is Italy's candidate, he is not the candidate of the government or of the center-right. I think that in the end consensus will prevail."
There is a possibility that the use of Western weapons will be authorized on Russian soil. Do you fear an escalation of the conflict?
"I believe that we must work to move forward in the direction of a peace table and a conference like the one that took place in Switzerland a couple of months ago, with the participation of Russia and China. But Russia cannot arrive with the solution, that is, the surrender of Ukraine, peace is something else: peace is a just peace that guarantees the independence of Ukraine."
Next National Budget: Is Forza Italia in Favor of a Tax on Extra Profits?
"We are absolutely against it. We said it from the beginning and we have not had any reports in this direction. There is our no and Minister Giorgetti has never spoken about it."
Open Arms Trial: Six Years Requested for Salvini
"He did his duty as Minister of the Interior to defend legality. Asking for six years in prison for this reason seems an unreasonable choice and, what's more, without any legal basis."
