Intervention by the Project Unit for the fight against African swine fever in the countryside of Orgosolo.

Search and capture operations of wild pigs illegally bred in public lands were carried out: about 60 animals were killed by the teams, coordinated by the project unit and by the Police Headquarters and Prefecture of Nuoro, with the participation of the staff of the various entities of the regional administration involved.

"For three years now there have been no outbreaks of swine fever in domestic pigs: it is the sign that complete eradication is almost reached - explained the Region in a note -. This type of animals in the wild is the transmission belt. of the virus among the wild population and domestic animals. The activities carried out in recent years have drastically reduced the number of dangerous animals and therefore the circulation of the virus, but it is still necessary to complete the actions to completely eliminate the populations at risk ".

The next audit by the European Commission is approaching, scheduled for the first days of November, decisive for the reopening to the export of pork products.
