Prestigious victory for Cagliari Primavera. At the Crai Sport Center Fabio Pisacane's team won 3-2 over Torino , the second strongest team in the championship. Great performance from the baby rossoblù, especially on the physical level and mental attitude. A success that was not to be taken for granted on the eve, not only due to the value of the opponent, but also because the team was experiencing a difficult moment after the last two defeats against Milan and Roma which had highlighted a certain psychological fragility. Instead, a reaction came against Toro, but above all a convincing performance that can give morale for the playoff race.
The summary of the match
Cagliari starts off great. In the quarter of an hour, from a corner kick, Marcolini hits the crossbar with his head. Shortly afterwards Kingstone gave the rossoblù the lead. The Sardinians, however, make the mistake of moving their center of gravity back and concede the equalizer from Dell'Aquila . However, Pisacane's team were not intimidated and took the lead again, on the half hour mark, with Kingstone, who was very good at rising higher than anyone else on a corner. At 2-1 , Cagliari plays boldly, managing the ball and building good plays from below. Even in the first part of the second half, the home team managed the advantage, coming close to scoring a trio of goals several times. But in the Sardinians' best moment comes the 2-2, from a free kick, by Longoni. This time too, Cagliari demonstrated great ability to react and earned a penalty in the 81st minute with Achour , thrown into the fray in the second half by Pisacane. The same French-Algerian striker displaces Abati and thus puts Cagliari back in the lead. Pisacane's team defends in an orderly and compact manner, without ever taking risks, until the 96th minute.
Great joy
At the final whistle the joy of the rossoblù coach Fabio Pisacane exploded: «The celebration at the end of the match was liberating. I see how much the boys and my staff work during the week to achieve these results. It was more for them than for me. This team has found itself in the last two and a half months having to play the first leg and the second leg against Milan, Rome and Turin. Furthermore, the asymmetric calendar certainly did not help us from this point of view. But the boys outdid themselves today."
The Cagliari coach analyzes the victory, also focusing on last weekend's setback: «Roma's defeat is the result of some of my choices and I take responsibility for them. Today, however, I want to give a round of applause to the boys because the credit for the victory goes above all to them. I think this team has always had a very specific identity. With my staff we tried to give a soul to the team which, apart from a few setbacks, has always emerged. So I'm not surprised that I restarted the game twice. The boys wanted this victory at all costs, the match was prepared with such meticulousness and attention to detail. Then it must also be acknowledged that there are opponents and Torino, which is the second strength in the championship, is a team of great quality and which scored us goals on the first shot and from a free kick. This is a victory that is worth double precisely because of the effort made by the boys."
Pisacane also focuses on the path taken so far: «When we came to play direct matches, the team demonstrated on the one hand that it had values, highlighting concepts and principles. On the other hand, perhaps, he had some difficulties on a psychological level. But there, I have to intervene so that the boys don't feel the pressure and play the matches with enthusiasm."
Pisacane also praises the two protagonists, Achour and Kingstone: «Achour? Last year I picked him up from the Under18s to go and play for salvation in Frosinone. He knows very well the value I recognize in him. He climbed the ranks with goals. But today I needed a more structured striker, with a faster one, like Vinciguerra. So the choice was purely strategic. Kingstone? In my opinion he has a potential that is out of the norm and which he highlights when he performs like this. He always had excellent races, with mistakes obviously. But if we look at all the opportunities he has had since the beginning of the year, he could already have had twelve or thirteen goals. He must continue to work like this because he can get great satisfaction."
