Sassari will have a standard spelling recognized by the Sardinia Region.

The novelty thanks to the project of the Municipality of Sassari financed by the regional tender and which also provides for the orthographic standardization of Tabarchino and Gallurese.

The Camillo Bellieni Institute of Sassari, which has been promoting and enhancing the Sardinian language and culture for over thirty years, will take care of the actual implementation. Experts, teachers and linguists will work there: from Mario Lucio Marras, a specialist in Sassari, to Michele Pinna, scientific director of Is.Be and project supervisor, from Maria Doloretta Lai, cultural organizer, to Maurizio Virdis, linguist. The work will be completed by October.

The analysis will focus on literary texts, established uses of speech and other forms of linguistic production: theater, hunchbacks, idioms and songs of the folk tradition. The references are to the writings of Pompeo Calvia, Salvator Ruiu, Cesarino Mastino and Gildo Motroni, to the dictionaries of Giosuè Muzzo, Giampaolo Bazzoni and Vito Lanza, to the grammar of Giampaolo Bazzoni and to his collection on idioms.

Inspirations also from modern linguistic logics, from the pillars of Ferdinad de Saussure's linguistics and from the pragmatic uses of language. Without forgetting the methodology experimented with the Limba Sarda Comuna, the experience of the municipal language counters and the didactic activities on the Sardinian language.

"A table will be created with the graphematic repertoire most appropriate for the distinctive sounds of the language from the graphic and phonemic point of view, the pronunciation of the sounds and their graphic representation based on the international phonetic alphabet - explains Michele Pinna - and a kit will be created of spelling conventions and pronunciation rules ".
