And it was in Massama that the 53-year-old, assisted by the lawyer Irene Gana, was heard by the magistrates, to whom he repeated what he had already reported on the day of the crime, admitting his responsibility.

He described to the investigators a situation that seemed to him without a way out, linked to both his and his wife's economic and health difficulties.

From what we learn between the two, although separated, there was a peaceful relationship, without harassment or episodes of mistreatment.
It therefore remains a mystery what prompted Meneghel to attack his wife in her sleep, hitting her with three blows to the head, which the autopsy confirmed as lethal.
