Woodstock, the last temple of dance in Assemini
Don't call it a disco, but don't call it a dance hall either. The formula has been successful for at least three decades
Every holy Saturday that comes down to earth, people dance here. For 35 years, the only period of silence is that of Covid. For the rest Woodstock in Sardinia has always been spelled Assemini .
Don't call it a disco, but don't call it a dance hall either. The formula has been successful for at least three decades . It is no coincidence that this is the last and only temple of dance in Las Vegas in Cagliari. For all ages, timeless music, from 8pm until late at night, every weekend, without delay.
In the 90s it was the youth culture that dictated, with the myth of the discotheque, the rules of the animation of the town's sometimes excessive and transgressive nightlife. Today is there
more mature population to animate the last remaining open ballroom, capable of accommodating up to 800 people, in which the live orchestra and the performance of an accordion enliven the dances.
Bruno and Cristina keep it alive with a formidable family management, the key to its success.
«The closure of the discos – explains the manager Bruno Lai – has left dance lovers without tracks. Many have dispersed, others no longer go dancing. Even the current restrictive rules for alcohol consumption have changed habits. It was different before. There are three generations of our customers, they really come to have fun, they have found a family here ». «After so much work – adds Cristina Lecis – we are satisfied with our historical clientele and each evening is planned with greater tranquillity. We are on social networks but word of mouth wins. Those who are happy always come back with new friends».
A musical set that varies and satisfies all age groups.
Dances accompany free time . Some do not last more than a season, others survive their time: it is the case of the tango, the samba, the waltz, the mazurka, the cha cha cha. The music is always live with an orchestra and musical instruments that adapt to the tastes of the customers. The union that has been created between the different generations makes every evening a success. It is a targeted target, there are those who love Latin American dances, slow dances (long awaited) and couple dances. The knights invite the most skilled and capable ladies, but the opposite is increasingly the case.
Social place par excellence for entertainment and indispensable tool for the care of all ages.
Woodstock consolidates the old habits of a healthy social life that is not made up only of smartphones, emails, files and programs. Many have the courage to come alone, socialize, make friends and feel at home and everyone can't wait for the following Saturday.
«It's like a family - declares the historic customer Terry Ballò - I've never missed a day, for about twenty-two years. There is no age in here. Bruno and Cristina are the right people, simple and complete. This is their fortune."
«We have been coming here for 8 years – add Rita and Ignazio Cara – always on Saturdays and Sundays. There is good fun and we dance all over the place».
«I've been going to him for 14 years - Antonietta Pisu says - we're part of the family. I love tango, but I'm also learning other genres. My daughter is a mother, on the contrary, because before and after the evening I have to send her a text message to reassure her ».
«Woodstock is home for us – declare Rita Fadda and Ruggero Manca – and we said it all. We met here. Under Covid we suffered because the place was closed ». «It is our home - explain Luigina Nossardi and Luciana Prudenti - Bruno and Cristina are the club's winning card. We've been coming here for more than twenty years. The recipe is always the same».
«Here there is a family - declares Marco Marrocu, historic musician) - I accompany all the dances with my accordion, from classic ballroom dancing to Latin American music. Live music is the main entertainment. I have known 94/95 year old customers who used to come here, even with some ailments, but here, as if by magic, they forgot about it».
«Woodstock - adds the animator Bruno Usala, known as “Su foti” - is my medicine. Dancing makes me feel good and I have the spirit to entertain others too ».
«Dance – concludes Lino Zanusso – chases away thoughts and problems. I like happiness and fun. I've been coming to Dolianova with my car for over thirty years, ever since there was an orchestra and people used to dance ballroom dancing».
