Wind energy, the Gallura committee's complaint: «A blade collapsed in Bortigiadas: who controls maintenance?»
The tower would have broken at the base, fragments of the rotor thrown around. Maria Grazia Demontis: «Do the Municipalities know the “state of health” of the plants?»The dented tower lying on the ground. The shattered rotor, the broken blades. In Bortigiadas in recent days a wind turbine installed near the Provincial Road 35 collapsed, a short distance from the large plant that dominates the landscape of the Gallura town.
The complaint comes from the Gallura committee against energy speculation in Sardinia. There are photos and videos to document the consequences of what happened, according to what we learn, last September 15th.
"We only know that it is a mini wind farm", with an isolated tower, "but at the moment we cannot know who it belongs to. On Monday we will access the documents": this is what the spokesperson of the committee, Maria Grazia Demontis, says. She also addresses the issue of safety: "Do the administrators of the municipalities know the status of the systems already built? Are they aware of the frequency of maintenance? We will ask", she adds, "that the mayors monitor what has already been built in their territories. Because we can all imagine what would have happened if someone had been down there at the time of the collapse".
According to the images, the tower was cut off at the base. The rotor is destroyed: according to witnesses – which need to be confirmed – it was the first part to come off. Then everything fell down. While the bolts that held the structure to the ground are all in place. And they are large bolts: not like others that have been talked about recently, which were supposedly removed to sabotage a plant. In fact, they resisted. Not everything else.
