The island of Spargi, in the La Maddalena archipelago, closed and off-limits for several hours to allow for "urgent and no longer deferrable wild boar slaughter operations".
The Port Authority communicated this, announcing the closure – Friday 30 August, from 3pm to 10pm – of «a large area of the island's sea, as is known to be highly frequented by tourists during this period», some of whom – including a child – were attacked by the wild boars that inhabit it .
«In particular – explains the Coast Guard – the entire coastal strip will be closed, extending up to 500 metres from the coast, in the stretch between Cala d'Alga, Cala Corsara, Cala Granara, Cala dell'Amore and Cala Connarsi».
Navigation, mooring, stopping, bathing, fishing, diving by any naval unit (pleasure craft, traffic boats, fishing) are prohibited.
"On site - specifies the Coast Guard - there will be several naval units of the coast guard and other police forces to keep watch."
Penalties are foreseen for offenders.
