Who was Giancarlo Piga, the firefighter who died in the countryside of Oliena

Firefighter, in his spare time he worked on the family land . And it was during these jobs that Giancarlo Piga, 41 years old from Oliena, father of three daughters, died yesterday.

He was trapped in the tractor cabin that overturned . The rescue operations immediately alerted by a person who was with him were useless. When colleagues from Nuoro, the 118 ambulances and the helicopter rescue arrived on the scene there was nothing more to be done.

Giancarlo Piga was a well-known and respected man. His death has aroused a strong feeling of solidarity among his colleagues and the population of Oliena.

The dynamics of the tragedy are yet to be clarified: Piga was driving along a country road in the Logheri area, perhaps due to an incorrect maneuver or mechanical failure . The body has been seized and the police are investigating the case.
