The ford held up. Once the flood wave had passed, with the retreat of the waters, the infrastructure built on the bed of the Flumendosa in Villaputzu re-emerged: cars to and from the town must pass through there following the closure of the iron bridge.

On Saturday, Mayor Sandro Porcu had observed the rising level of the river, whose flow had reached 300 cubic meters per second. That passage was built to withstand situations like those of the last few days. But until it was seen resurfacing, apprehension remained.

"The ford is there," the mayor can exult this morning, "as soon as possible we will begin the work of fixing the track/road to reopen it to car traffic as soon as possible."
