Villagrande, the giant pipe on the Ponte Canale bridge collapses, halting irrigation service.

The giant cast iron pipe over the Mirenu River has burst, resulting in a significant loss of irrigation water. Starting tomorrow and for at least two days, water service in the Tortolì and Girasole districts will be interrupted.

The emergency began last night at Ponte Canale, in the Villagrande area, downstream from the Santa Lucia dam, which collects water from the Bau Muggeris reservoir. In the hours following the breach, the water loss significantly increased, and Enas, the agency that manages Sardinia's water service, cut off the supply to the dam as early as 5:00 PM today.

Tomorrow morning, the Land Reclamation Consortium, which manages the irrigation system in the area, will begin extraordinary maintenance work, which, according to an initial schedule, should be completed by the weekend. The unexpected disruption will not cause any inconvenience to property owners in the Lotzorai area.
