The rainbow flag positioned at the Poetto roundabout, at the entrance to Quartu , was the subject of a vandal raid.

Someone, with scissors, cut the eyelets that held the banner hanging from the flagpole in the center of the circular flowerbed, in front of Viale Colombo where, in recent weeks - in conjunction with the Day Against Homophobia - other colored flags had been placed , symbol of the struggle for the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer people.

“An intentional gesture , committed by those who would like to deny the recognition of the right to the free expression of affection to a part of the citizens of our community. A despicable act that we strongly condemn on behalf of the entire municipal administration and the LGBT + community ”, is the comment by Cinzia Carta, Councilor for Education, Gender Policies and LGBT Rights of the Municipality of Quartu.

“Just yesterday, passing through the Poetto, an activist from the Agedo association became aware of the flag thrown on the ground and picked it up, immediately realizing that the edges had been cut cleanly - explains Carta -. He then took it to the Central Library in via Dante, where we were gathered together with the rights associations on the occasion of the presentation of a book on the theme of the relationship between parents and LGBT children. We were all shocked . The flag was displayed there for the evening, further proof of how much it is still necessary to commit ourselves to raising awareness and respect for all the colors of human affection ".

But the banner, the commissioner guarantees, will soon return to its place: “The damage and removal confirm once again that we must not stop in the struggle for the recognition of fundamental rights. It will certainly not be a cowardly act to stop us , we will continue with our battles anyway ”.
