It was an evening of disruption at Elmas Airport, where the arrivals and departures boards were progressively filled with delays. Numerous domestic and international flights (operated by various airlines) were postponed, with waits in some cases exceeding two hours. One extreme case was that of the Ryanair flight from London Stansted, which was delayed more than six hours and was originally scheduled to arrive at 9:15 PM, but was now scheduled for 3:35 AM, in the middle of the night.
According to figures available on the website of Sogaer, the company that manages Cagliari's airport, there have been ten delayed arrivals (so far). Seven departures have been affected, for a total of 17 flights. The most affected routes are those to and from Milan, between Linate and Malpensa, followed by Pisa, Bolzano, Bergamo, and Verona. Among the most significant delays are flights arriving from Pisa, scheduled for 9:00 PM and rescheduled for 11:30 PM; from Bolzano, scheduled for 6:50 PM and estimated for 9:05 PM; and from Milan Malpensa, with arrivals delayed from 9:25 PM to 11:25 PM. On the departures front, however, the flight to Pisa has been postponed from 9:50 pm to 12:15 am, the one to Milan Malpensa from 9:50 pm to 12:05 am, while the connection to Milan Linate has been postponed from 8:50 pm to 10:40 pm.
The cause of the disruption is currently unknown, although numerous technical issues at the various departure airports have not been ruled out. The only certainty for hundreds of passengers is the wait.
