The attempt of mediation by the Region of Sardinia and the municipality of Torpè with Medea Italgas has failed.
The company opposed a firm no to the requests of the mayor Martino Sanna , who wanted to move the headquarters where a LNG deposit will be built from Istrumpadoglios.
Sanna and the citizens asked to move the deposit to an area far from the inhabited center, given that the identified site is located near the houses.
Nothing to do, the councilor for Industry Anita Pili , who intervened by videoconference, was unable to prevent the construction of the work in Istrumpadoglios .
A situation that in recent days has caused high tension in the village, especially on the night of October 13, when there was also an intimidating act against the purifier in the locality of Poiu, in whose walls an inscription appeared next to a cross that read " In Torpé no gas ".
The mayor of Torpè promises battle: “The representatives of Medea do not want to know about finding another area that we are willing to offer to the company, and this both for economic reasons and for reasons of realization times that would lengthen considerably. As administration we will appoint a lawyer who will appoint an external consultant to assess the real risks in terms of pollution for neighboring houses, then we will act accordingly ".
Even the inhabitants of the area rise up: " I have the house 20 meters from the point where the depot will rise and I will have to receive the gas vents on my home every half hour as well as the coming and going of trucks that will cross the whole country", declares Germano Nieddu, also recalling the petition registered in June 2021. "Medea was not supposed to buy that land, but there are also responsibilities of the municipal administration that two months ago gave the concession to the company. We are ready to do battle through the legal channels" .
