Torpè celebrates his “Popeye” . On the occasion of the closing of the celebrations in honor of San Torpè, Franco Capra was awarded, the 57-year-old who won the arm wrestling world championships in the 70kg Master category for the right arm in Almaty, Kazakhstan and third place for the left arm.
A long career that has allowed Capra to bring home hundreds of trophies and awards around Italy and the world : from Canada to Moldova, from the United States to Brazil, passing through Norway, Lithuania, Poland, Turkey and Romania until conquering the Olympus of his category, a few weeks ago in the heart of Asia, beating the local champion Ryspayev Yedyl and the other 48 national teams who came from every corner of the planet.
«I have always had a particular passion for this discipline – recalled the world champion – even though I only started practicing it at a competitive level at the age of 40, when my other colleagues usually decide to stop. I made this leap thanks to the collaboration started with the athlete and osteopath, former physiotherapist of Cagliari Calcio, Francesco Todde, who followed me with professionalism and sincere friendship in his gym in Posada, giving me the motivational strength to hold on even in difficult moments . Since then, arm wrestling has become an irreplaceable relief and balance valve for me, until I achieved the most beautiful and unexpected result: the highest step in the world in my category. A competitive adventure that I was able to carry on thanks to the support of the sponsors and the many friends who have always given me a hand over all these years."
«As the municipal administration and on behalf of our entire community we delivered this plaque of recognition to the champion Franco Capra for the merits achieved and for having brought the name of Torpè around the world through the extraordinary flag of sport», said the mayor from the Baronie centre, Martino Sanna: «Franco's commitment and dedication are proof, especially for young people, that with tenacity and passion, important goals can be achieved, sometimes even distant, but still achievable ».
