Via Is Mirrionis, via Bacaredda, via Dante and via Cornalias appear to be the most dangerous streets in Cagliari and where there is a high number of accidents. To address these problems, the Municipality has decided to strengthen the road safety plan, also to avoid tragedies such as the one that recently occurred in Via Cadello where a baby was run over and killed by a motorcycle.

The council has already approved the guidelines of a particular address, that of the “zero victims” objective, with the enlargement of the thirty zones, raised pedestrian crossings, lighting on the streets, on the strips and in the school areas.

Training will also be important. As Guido Calzia, commander of the municipal police explained, pedestrians "have their responsibilities, especially when they cross while looking at their mobile phones". However, the number one danger remains the motorist: Calzia recalled that a few days ago eleven new licenses were withdrawn. "We do not want more victims of the road - underlined during the press conference the mayor Paolo Truzzu - and we need the total understanding of the motorists: the raised pedestrian crossings have been much contested, but since they were installed in Viale Diaz we have not registered any more. accidents". And soon they will arrive in via Bacaredda and via Sonnino. Then it will be the turn of via Cadello. Especially the student transit areas and the busiest areas such as public parks will be "protected".

On the awareness-raising front, an agreement was signed with the Victims of the road association: those on probation after the withdrawal of their driving license will be able, for "rehabilitation", to work as a pedestrian assistant. Resources for 500 thousand euros have already been found. "But we have pursued these objectives immediately with interventions that everyone can see - recalled Truzzu - now we continue on this path".

In the last two months, 274 minutes have been raised: in the first place is the forgotten revision (129 violations). Then unpaid insurance (48) and speed (48). Driving without seat belts (38) and without a license (11 cases) complete the picture.

As for the sometimes badly lit streets, the mayor is ready to file a complaint: "We found real tampering with the panels."
