From tomorrow, Friday 7 January, the anti-Covid vaccinations of the first 60 children aged between 5 and 11 will start in Sassari, in the center of viale San Pietro, while next Tuesday it will be the turn of the fragile children followed from the complex structure of Pediatrics.
The administrations take place in the four clinics of the hub, on the ground floor of the Medical Clinic, starting at 8.30. The little ones must be accompanied by their parents. The Sassari Aou has 450 pediatric doses available.
"Although our vocation is to vaccinate children with frailty conditions - says Antonello Serra, coordinator of the Aou di Sassari vaccine center - we have decided to make an effort to benefit all children aged 5 to 11 considering that we must give a sprint to the vaccination campaign. In Sardinia 11.8% of the total were vaccinated, while in Italy they are 10.97% ".
"Covid - continues Serra - can also be dangerous for children, among the infected about 6 out of a thousand are hospitalized, 1 out of 7000 in intensive care, without forgetting the possibility of serious complications such as multisystem inflammatory syndrome and the appearance of unwanted effects after some time, such as long-Covid. The vaccine is safe: over 3 million children vaccinated in the US with rare, mild and transient side effects. The vaccine is effective because it reduces the disease by about 91%. Finally, vaccinating children will help reduce viral circulation in schools, between the basins at greatest risk, and therefore in the community ”.
On 11 January, however, from 2 pm, "fragile" children, always from 5 to 11 years old, will be vaccinated, followed by the complex structure of Pediatrics directed by Professor Roberto Antonucci. Pediatrics will dedicate four days to the administration of the first 2 doses, also in consideration of the total number of children to be immunized, just under a hundred.
“We immediately gave our availability for the vaccination of our fragile patients - underlines Antonucci -. It is precisely these patients who, due to their state of health, can run the greatest risks in the event of Sars-CoV-2 infection, and it is therefore necessary that they be protected through the complete vaccination cycle ".
