The most beautiful sea in Italy is in Sardinia, in Domus De Maria where the Capo Spartivento marine protected area was born in 2024. This municipality leads the ranking of the 20 seaside locations with five sails awarded by Legambiente and Touring Club Italiano for environmental sustainability, gentle tourism, enhancement of the territory and protection of biodiversity and described in the Guide "The most beautiful sea 2025". The guide also indicates ten lake locations with Five sails.

In second place for the sea free from overtourism is the Cilento Pollica, followed in order of ranking by Nardò, in the province of Lecce, by the Sardinian Baunei (Nuoro) and by San Giovanni a Piro (Sa). At a regional level, Sardinia is confirmed again this year as the region with the most awarded locations, as many as 6 seaside municipalities with five sails (Baunei, Cabras, San Teodoro, Santa Teresa di Gallura and Posada) followed by Puglia with five municipalities (Nardò, Otranto, Melendugno, Vieste and Gallipoli) by Tuscany with four and by Liguria and Campania. Traditional seaside tourism destinations such as Sicily or Emilia Romagna do not have any awarded locations.

On the lake front, Lake Molveno, in Trentino-Alto-Adige, will also lead the rankings in 2025, followed by Lake Monticolo in Appiano sulla Strada del Vino (Bz) and Lake Avigliana Grande (To).
